View From Bergen County

Welcome to Skip's Painting. I began painting houses in northeast New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut in 1982. After moving back to my hometown of Rochelle Park, I became a member of the Bergen County Mastercraftsman Paint and Paper Association, where I met some of the most experienced and knowledgeable painters in the area. My specialty is year-round interior painting and paper hanging, and small exterior jobs in the Fall. I am also an amateur artist, writer, and musician, and have published a number of nostalgic stories about growing up in New Jersey in the 50's and 60's. You can read these stories and see samples of my artwork at the sites listed at the bottom of this page. Thanks. Skip Van Lenten

There are two paints that I like to use on most of my jobs, Benjamin Moore, and Muralo. Muralo was one of the first to introduce acrylic formulas, which are now becoming widely used by most painters, and preferred by most homeowners. Benjamin Moore has converted their color line to acrylics as well. They provide a much harder surface than latex, will not fade, and are advertised as being absolutely "scrubbable." For more information on acrylic paints, please click on the link for Housepainting.

If you have any questions about painting or paint products, call or e-mail me, and I will try to answer them or put you in touch with someone who can. If you would like an estimate for a particular job, I usually do that on Saturday mornings, and my estimates are always free. Just call or e-mail me to set up a time.

I have an artistic streak that makes painting houses more than just a job, and I don't mind helping out with color choices, coordinating rooms, or going through as many samples as it might take to get the right combination. I enjoy working with colors and trying to achieve a harmonious look. As for my artwork, I started doing pencil and oil portraits in 1983, and got hooked on the challenge of making them as lifelike as possible. Today, I am trying to branch out into landscapes and paintings of wildlife. It's a nice way to relax after work, and you don't have to stand on a ladder to reach the canvas. My web address for portrait work is www.skipsportraits.com, and for general art: www.skipsprints.com.
